“All ages … remember what I’m telling you when you grow up and you’re a party host. Trust me, your guests will have the most fun,” advised our revered mother Calliope, whose name originates from the chief of all Greek muses in poetry and eloquence.
“Young people will be fascinated with the older folks, and the older folks are uplifted by the enthusiasm of the youngsters.”
We’ve followed our mother’s sage advice throughout our years of hosting parties here and abroad. And during our thirty years of launching the annual kickoff luncheon to the Toronto International Film Festival planned for the Who and the Who of Canada, Hollywood and Europe.
Not unlike the successes of the ‘Happy Nowruz’ parties that Los Angeles Urgent Care’s Dr. Shahriar Daniel Safvati and beautiful wife Mojgan have hosted for ten years on behalf of the Iranian Medical society (a 33rd annual fete).
For this year’s event the good doctor and his family which includes daughters Dr. Niloufar Safvati (OB/GYN based at the University of Miami), Nora Safvati (a sophomore at Palisades High School), and attorney son Dr. Sina Safvati hosted this joyous togetherness for 200 guests at The Beverly Hilton.
Feasting and dancing to celebrate the Persian New Year, Nowruz, which translates as “new day.” A holiday that honors the spring equinox dating back to 1394. Similar to other holidays, such as Easter that bow to the arrival of springtime.
Having attended any number of events in years past, we are overwhelmed with the generosity of our hosts, the good Dr. Shahriar Safvati and Mojgan, who are top of their class with their festive tables of treats during drinks and afterward.
Among the Safvati’s distinguished guests: the USC Professor Gerhard Fuch; Sasan Kamali, Radio Host & Journalist from 670 AM KIRN; Oncologist Dr. Nader Javadi and family.
Long acknowledged as a popular toast at the Middle Eastern table: “In the new year, may your right hand always be stretched out in friendship, never in want. Happy Nowruz!”
